Over my
years in ministry, I have had
opportunity to identify and develop a
leadership gift from the Holy Spirit.
John Maxwell defines leadership as
influence. I'm not sure my
definition would fit in one word, but I
agree that a leader influences their
environment.
In my first
years of ministry, I served as a
Christian School Principal and a staff
pastor. As I acclimated to the
positions, I began to recognize certain
strategies that would help the school
to grow and fulfill its mission better.
Through the course of several years, I
led the school through the tedious
process of accreditation. The
school was accredited on its first year
of eligibility with no exceptions.
The school was badly out of date with
technology and I led the school through
the process of installing a full
computer network and purchasing and
implementing a school software
management program. I led the
start of a school library, the building
of a new playground, and the remodeling
of our building during the years I served
in the school. I challenged the
school board to develop long range
plans
Each of
these changes required exerting
influence and motivating people to
strive for bold and challenging plans.
I oversaw a staff of over 20 employees
that became motivated to accomplish
these tasks, as God gave me the ability
to lead.
In my
current position, I oversee our office
staff of 6, and the ministry leaders of
approximately 10 ministries, in
addition to our small groups leaders.
God continues to give me insight about
how to effectively visualize the goal
for our ministry and then call the
people to fufill the vision.
